Clair F. Gallets
Allegany, NY-Clair F. Gallets of 4279 S. Nine Mile Rd. died Sunday (May 17, 2009) in the Olean General Hospital.
Born July 2, 1922 at his home on the family farm in Allegany he was the son of Albert and Annetta F. Riehle Gallets. On September 28, 1946 at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany he married Margaret L. "Skip" Gallets who predeceased him October 19, 2001.
Mr. Gallets was educated at the Klice Crossroads Schoolhouse and later at Allegany High School before beginning lifelong operation of what became the third generation of the family farm.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and also the Eagle Rod and Gun Club of Allegany. As an active farmer, he belonged to the Eastern Milk Producers Association and served as a committee member for Agway, Inc. and as a committee member for the Farmer's Home Association. For over thirty years he was active with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service of Cattaraugus County.
Mr. Gallets helped out the youth of the area with his involvement in the 4-H Club and he loved helping with the horse pulls at the County Fair. He spent years attending cattle and horse auctions, even recently as his health permitted.
Surviving are 2 daughters Deborah (Mike) Mooney of Allegany and Dianne Gallets of Chandler, AZ; 1 son Danny Gallets of Utica; 2 grandchildren Heather (Bob) Hunt and Christopher (Tami) Mooney; 2 great grandchildren Benjamin Clair Mooney and Collin Michael Mooney; 2 sisters Marion (Louis) Pelow of The Villages, FL and Janice Hughes of Lakeside, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 1 son Dennis Gallets in 1976 and a brother-in-law Jay Hughes.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (May 21, 2009) beginning with a prayer service at the funeral home at 9:30am followed by a Liturgy of the Word service at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Fr. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Allegany Ambulance Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
