Obituary of Leon R. Young

Leon R. "Butch" Young Olean-- Leon R. "Butch" Young, of 525 Erie Street, passed away Saturday (May 9, 2009) at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, after a brief illness. Born August 1, 1938 in Olean, NY and baptized in St. Joseph Maronite Church, he was the son of Charles O. and Dolores "Doris" Bischalaney Young. He married Rita M. Mackay who survives. "Butch" attended Olean High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955-1958. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1971. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by 5 children Brenda Fortuna of Olean, Valerie Mueller of Casselberry, FL., Christopher Young of Arlington, WA., Michael Young of Olean, Leah Young of San Diego, CA.; 1 sister Dolores (Richard) Newhouse of Houston, TX.; 5 grandchildren; 2 close and dear friends John Power of Syracuse, NY and John LoVerme of New York City; and several nieces and nephews. His was predeceased by a sister Margaret (Sherman) Parker; and 4 brothers Charles "Jim" Young, Francis "Bunky" Young, Robert "Bob" Young and Larry Young. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road today from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday (May 12, 2009) at 10:00am in St. Joseph's Maronite Catholic Church in Olean. Rev. Joseph G. Akiki, administrator, will be the celebrant. An incense service will be held tonight at 8:30pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
