Obituary of William Simmons

Rochester, NY-William James Simmons of 1404 Long Pond Rd. 14612 died Thursday (April 30, 2009) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Born August 7, 1922 in Olean, NY he was the son of William and Jane McGoldrick Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a graduate of Olean High School and was a veteran of WWII having served with the US Army from 1944 to 1945. He was first employed by Clark Brothers and the Olean Times Herald. He then worked as an inspector for Line Material and McGraw Edison (now Cooper Industries) for 32 years prior to his retirement. He was a former member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and was a member of the Olean Knights of Columbus Council 338 for over 50 years. He also belonged to the McGraw Edison Retirement Group. He and his wife Tressa traveled extensively around the country four times, visiting all 52 states, Europe, Ireland, the Bahamas and Mexico. They spent most of their winters in Florida. Surviving are 2 sons Thomas J. (Betsy) Simmons of Rochester and Scott M. (Maureen) Simmons of Central Valley; 2 daughters Kathy McGee of Truth or Consequences, NM and Maureen Boza of Arcade; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Colleen M. Simmons on December 27, 1979 and 1 sister Mary Catherine Fisher. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig &amp; Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean this evening from 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (May 2, 2009) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
