Dick was a good friend all my life. We played as young kids from childhood through High School. Then had not seen Dick for many years until we contacted each other thru the internet. We had moved out west and finally made arrangements to visit each other, once in Buffalo and once in Phoenix. Linda and I are very sorry for you Maria. We did enjoy our visits, with you and Dick. God bless you.

To my aunt and dear friend with all my heart, I share with you your feelings of loss and your dearest companion and friend. Dick was always light hearted and free with you, and I am saddened deeply for such a sudden and overwhelming experience. I share all your pain, and send you all my love to have courage and peace of mind in the days ahead. I can see Dick's smiling face, even thought it's been years since we last were together. He was a best friend and companion, and he will always be with you in spirit. All my love and empathy to everyone, and especially to my dear Maria, always your nephew and friend. Peace be on all.

Maria, Julie, Matthew, Please accept my deepest sympathy. Dick had a tremendous zest for living which was contagious. He tried everything including piloting an airplane, taking scuba diving lessons, and skydiving. Above all he was a true gentleman— “one who never inflicts pain” in the words of John Henry Newman. Dick was a kindhearted, compassionate, caring individual. He will be missed.

Dr. Gates was so right when I was at SBU as a business major who minored in education by encouraging me to take a job in education. He was an awesome mentor while I was at Bonaventure. I never forgot his gentle manor and his personal interest he had for all of his students. What a wonderful individual who loved the education profession.

I had the good fortune to work for Dick as a grad assitant at SBU. He was a wonderful mentor. He was always positive and had a genuine interest in his students that continued after graduation. I'll never forget the flight he took me on when he first got his pilot's licence. It was a windy day and the little plane was thrown all over the runway as we landed. I was scared until I looked over at him. He had that same smile on his face you see in the photo on the left. Always calm, always kind, he was a class act.

Please accept our sincere condolences. May the words quoted from this song bring you a measure of comfort as it did for us. ”If a man or woman should die, can they live again? Hear the promise God has made: He will call; The dead will answer. They shall live at his command. For he will have a longing For the work of his own hand. So have faith, and do not wonder, For our God can make us stand. And we shall live forever, As the work of his own hand ”(Job 14:13-15)
