Walter G. Peasley
Olean, NY �" Walter G. Peasley, 92, of 608 Front Street, passed away Wednesday (January 14, 2015) at the Olean General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on March 18, 1922 in Cuba he was the son of Earl H. and Hazel Nichols Peasley. On July 31, 1943 in Cuba he married Bette M. Farner who predeceased him on January 21, 2006.
Walt was a 1939 graduate of Hinsdale High School and later of Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Force having served during WWII from 1944 to 1946. He flew many combat missions and took great pride in his ability to land his plane in difficult if not impossible conditions. He was also a twin-engine flying instructor with an advanced instrument rating. Upon discharge Walt received numerous commendations including the WWII Victory Medal, the Bronze Star, the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with six stars and campaign medals from New Guinea, the Philippines and America.
Walt was employed as a truck driver for Sun Oil Co., Charlie Bowers Trucking, Associated Transport and later for Olean Wholesale for 18 years prior to his retirement. Another passion was traveling with his wife in their RV throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Surviving are two daughters Linda McJury of Hammondsport and Diane (Ron) Hamed of Portville; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a special friend, Virginia Garl.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a brother, Todd Peasley, his sister Virginia Shaffer and a niece Karan Peasley.
