Jeanne E. Dodge
OLEAN - Jeanne E. Dodge, formerly of 225 N. 15th St., passed away
Friday (Jan. 2, 2015) at the Olean General Hospital, after an extended
illness.
Born Aug. 19, 1926, in Olean, she was the daughter of Charles and Laura
Howe Welch Sr. On Jan. 17, 1948, at St. Mary of the Angels Church, in
Olean, she married Elba M. "Brub" Dodge, who predeceased her Nov. 17,
2009.
Mrs. Dodge was a lifelong resident of Olean, where she attended St.
Mary's Parochial School and was a 1945 graduate of Olean High School.
She spent many years being a homemaker and raising a family and later
worked at the former Leo's Market and then the former MDS Laboratory,
retiring in 1988.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church.
Surviving are a son, Stephen (Cheryl) Dodge of Salamanca; three
daughters, Susan (Ronald) Varrichio of Sayville, Carolyn (Richard) Root
of Cuba and Nancy (Sheldon) Kennedy of East Amherst; 11 grandchildren;
11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Marjorie) Welch of Shinglehouse, Pa.; a
sister-in-law, Mary Welch of Allegany; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by five brothers and
sisters, Florence Brinkman, Harry Welch, Marian Wallen, Margaret
Lorenzini and Charles Welch Jr.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the
Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean. A Mass
of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 7, 2015) at
St. Mary of the Angels Church. The Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be
the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Angels Church Building Fund or
to the Olean Public Library.
