Obituary of Mary Davies

Mary Ellen Davies Faithful Christian Servant Olean, NY Mary Ellen Davies, 78, recently of Eden Heights in Olean, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Rehabilitative Center after a long illness. Born February 11, 1936, in Salamanca, she was the eldest daughter of Lloyd and Ellen Myrick Davies of Freedom, then Vero Beach, FL. She was a 1953 graduate of Arcade Central School and 1957 graduate of Taylor University. She attended many different colleges and universities while working on her Masters and Doctorate in Education. During her life she was a missionary teacher in Mexico through Wycliffe, a teacher in Holland, NY, Sebastian and Vero Beach, FL, a Christian school administrator in Vero Beach, FL, a guidance counselor in Holland, NY, and school board member for Pioneer Central in Yorkshire. She was a devout Christian but didn't wear her faith on her sleeve. She lived her faith. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, photography, cooking, gardening, and collecting Angels from her travels around the world. She spent a great deal of time helping challenged students and adults improve their reading and math skills. Meme, as she was lovingly called by her family, is survived by sister Marjorie (Rex) Clouston of Vero Beach, FL, brother Clifford (Marcia) Davies of Freedom, NY, and sister Nancy Morgan of Olean, NY. In addition to her siblings, Meme had 9 nieces and nephews, 24 great-nieces and nephews, 7 great-great nieces and nephews, dear friend, Alice Banker, and many cousins that she loved spending time with. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later time at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Freedom Cemetery.
