Jamestown, NY Florence E. Martiny, formerly a longtime resident of Allegany, passed away Monday (May 26, 2014) at Lutheran Social Services in Jamestown. Born May 8, 1919 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of George and Signa Tuveson Schreiber, Sr. On June 18, 1941 in Allegany she married Edward F. "Red" Martiny, Sr. who preceded her in death on October 31,1995. Mrs. Martiny graduated from Allegany High School and attended Bryant and Stratton Business College in Buffalo for 2 years. From 1948 until 1967 she and her husband owned and operated the Model T. Inn in Derrick City, PA. She later worked for AlleCatt Asphalt Co. in Allegany, NY, West State Hardware in Olean, NY, and served as bookkeeper for the Allegany American Legion. Florence was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Bradford, PA and St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany, NY. She served as President of the local Bradford Chapter of the Valparaiso Guild for Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. While living in Allegany, NY, she enjoyed memberships in Sixty Plus Club, Birch Run Country Club, and Allegany Central School Sports Booster Club. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing euchre and bingo. Florence is survived by 1 son Edward F. Martiny, Jr. of Lakewood, NY; 2 daughters Christine (Joel) Thompson of Emporium, PA and Jill (Steve) Pollard of Port Charlotte, FL; 3 grandchildren Jordan Thompson of Emporium, Pa, Christopher Martiny of Brooklyn, NY, and Robert Martiny of Lakewood, NY; 1 brother George Schreiber, Jr. of Allegany; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Bernice Latham of Carleton, TX and her daughter-in-law Susan Martiny of Lakewood, NY. There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be private with burial in Saint Bonaventure Cemetery. Pastor Dan Rumfeldt of Lutheran Social Services will officiate. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean. Online condolences may be expressed at oleanfuneralhome.com.
