Clarence Whitton
Olean, NY-- Clarence Whitton of 1512 W. Henley St. died Tuesday (January 7, 2003) in The Waters of Allegany Healthcare Facility after a brief illness.
Born October 29, 1913 in Olean he was the son of the late Arthur and Eva Brook Whitton. He was married to Helen Shaffer who predeceased him January 3, 1988.
Mr. Whitton attended Olean schools. He worked his adult life for Clark Bros. (now Dresser Rand) as an electronic technician in the turbine division. He was instrumental in making many prototypes in the experimental lab as well as many parts and testing equipment. He traveled for many years for the testing department and he worked on the first turbine engine that Clark Bros. built for the Kentucky-Tennessee gas line.
He retired after 45 years of employment, and then enjoyed photography where he captured beautiful four-season landscapes. His favorite past time was to help feed all the stray animals in his neighborhood, including feeding peanuts and birdseed to the squirrels and birds as well as food for the stray cats. There wasn’t an animal he didn’t care for.
