Mary B. McGavisk "Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister Allegany, NY Mary B. McGavisk of 2216 St. Christopher Drive passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord Tuesday (May 6, 2014) at the Olean General Hospital. Born August 31, 1930 in Olean she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary O'Sheer Ballak. In 1955 in Olean she married Harry R. McGavisk who survives. Mrs. McGavisk was a graduate of Olean High School and also of Bryant and Stratton Business School in Buffalo. Shortly after her schooling she began employment in Olean with the Exchange National Bank, now Community Bank, NA and worked for 40 years, retiring as branch manager in 1997. She was a prayerful and religious person and her parish family at St. Bonaventure Church was well served by her faithful help as a Eucharistic minister, with Bonafest, The Bridge and the Catholic Charities committee. She was always giving of her time to others and enjoyed volunteering with the St. Elizabeth Mission Society and by spending time with the Sisters at the Motherhouse. She also volunteered at the St. Bonaventure University Quick Center for the Arts. In addition to her husband of 58 years she is survived by a son Ian (Page) McGavisk of York, PA; a daughter Kathleen (Frank) Maduri of Olean; 3 grandchildren Emily, Olivia and Betsy; 3 sisters Theresa Ballak of Allegany, Sr. Mary Immaculate, CSSF of Buffalo and Marguerite (David) Drake of Allegany; a brother-in-law Vince (Mary Ann) McGavisk of Dansville and several nieces and nephews Janice, Juliette, Jeffrey, Sean, Michael, Meghan and Maureen. She was predeceased by a brother John Ballak. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday (May 12, 2014) at 9:30am at St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The ReHabilitation Center 1439 Buffalo St. Olean, NY 14760. or to St. Bonaventure Church. Online condolences may be expressed at oleanfuneralhome.com.
