Allegany- Carl J. Finley, of 3974 Route 417, passed away Friday (April 18, 2014) at the Absolut of Allegany, surrounded by his loving family. Born August 16, 1928 in Pekin, IL he was the son of Carl and Mildred LeBar Finley. Mr. Finley was enlisted in the United State Army from 1945-1947. He was later employed at Dresser Industries as a purchasing manager, where he retired from on September 30, 1983. He was a founding member of the Mini Buck Lodge in Alma, NY. He was also a member of the Cowboys, Allegany American Legion Post #892, The Elks Lodge, The Eagles of Bradford, Pine Acres Golf Course in Bradford and St. Bonaventure Church. Mr. Finley was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting, gardening, playing euchre and cribbage. He loved to travel, especially to Florida for the winter. For 16 years, he drove the VA van for veterans. Surviving is his loving companion and soulmate of 35 years Barbara Matheson; three daughters Debra (Daniel) Cottone of West Henrietta, Peggy (Stephen) Reitz of Allegany, Cynthia (Philip) Pfeifer of Lavonia; six grandchildren Michael Cottone, Elizabeth Cottone, Timothy Reitz, Alex Reitz, Justin Pfeifer and Lauren Pfeifer Partridge; three great-grandchildren Jonathon Reitz, Matthew Reitz and Luna Mayta-Reitz; one sister Hilda Billings; his former wife Nancy Finley; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister Mildred Gayton; two step-brothers Dwayne Finley and Guy Wilber. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road on Friday (May 9, 2014) from 4-7pm. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday (May 10, 2014) at 10am at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the National Kidney 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016, Wounded Warriors P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675, St. Bonaventure Church Attn: The Bridge and the Absolut of Allegany.
