Obituary of Richard Gorny

Richard F. Gorny Olean, NY Richard F. Gorny, formerly of Old Rock City Road and recently of Eden Heights passed away Wednesday (March 5, 2014) at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility after a brief illness. Born April 8, 1921 in Buffalo he was the son of Frank J. and Helen Zarlephta Gorny. On August 8, 1944 in Buffalo he married Alice R. Nowak who predeceased him October 7, 2001. Mr. Gorny was raised in Buffalo after graduation from high school and had served in the US Army during WWII from 1942 until 1946. He later worked for the former Buffalo Forge Co. until his retirement in 1985. He had been a resident of Olean since 2000. He formerly held membership in the American Legion in the Buffalo area and was currently a member of the Hinsdale American Legion Post 1434. Surviving are a granddaughter Kelly Fries of Olean; a grandson Rick (Stacey) Vassar of Bossier City, LA; 2 great grandsons Sawyer Fries and Jackson Vassar; a great granddaughter Haley Bonanno; a sister Helen Turner of Macedon and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a sister Leona Thojnacki and a brother-in-law Walter Turner. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Saturday (March 8, 2014) from 10am until noon at which time a prayer service will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30pm at St. Bonaventure Church.
