Thomas R. Yehl
Allegany, NY Thomas R. Yehl of 3110 Five Mile Road passed away Friday (February 14, 2014) at his home after a brief illness.
Born August 22, 1930 in Allegany he was the son of Arthur J. and Annie M. Welsh Yehl. On May 8, 1954 he married Dorothy J. Wilson who predeceased him February 25, 2008.
Mr. Yehl was a 1948 graduate of Allegany Central School. He joined the National Guard in November 1947, then joined the US Navy in September of 1948 and was stationed on the USS Haynsworth and the USS Coral Sea as an electrician apprentice. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
He worked in the construction business as a member of the Operating Engineers Union as well as worked his beloved farm. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Olean Lodge #491, the Allegany Fire Department and was a life member of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892.
Surviving are his children James (Shirley) Yehl of Ledyard, CT, Philip Yehl of Allegany, Charles (Debra) Yehl of Allegany, Gregory (Daren) Yehl of Sanborn, IN and Nancy Yehl of Allegany; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; 1 sister Anna Mae Wenzel of Allegany; 1 brother Arthur (Marian) Yehl of Allegany and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by 1 sister Marion Atcheson and 3 brothers Robert "Stub" Yehl, Emil "Pete" Yehl and Joseph Yehl.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday from 6-9pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (February 18, 2014) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Gerald Piper, pastor of the Knapp Creek United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be next to his wife in Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor.
