Edna "Irene" Gaston Edna "Irene" Gaston, a resident of Ginger Cove in Annapolis, MD since June 2012, died on December 30, 2013 at the age of 90 from complications of dementia. Irene was born on October 10, 1923 in Muncy, PA to Letha and Edward Budman and was sister to Glenn Budman (deceased) and Edward Budman (of Hughesville, PA). Prior to moving to Annapolis, she and husband John were residents of Allegany, NY for over 55 years. After graduation from Hughesville high school, Irene served as a Ship's Cook, First Class in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1944 to 1946 and later, after completion of her military service, worked at the Weldon Pajama Factory in Hughesville, PA. During that time, she met beloved husband John (of Turbotville, PA) and they married on August 15, 1950. John and Irene spent their early married life in Turbotville and then moved to Allegany, NY in 1956. Here, their family grew to include son John E. Gaston and his wife Ellen (of Annapolis, MD), daughters Barbara J. Wright (deceased), and Bonny E. Gaston (of Alexandria, VA). Irene is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Lauren V. Gaston (of Kansas City, MO) and Grant J. Gaston (of West Chester, PA). Throughout her life, Irene was an avid cook and baker. She also enjoyed gardening and sewing and was always involved in church and community activities. Most recently, prior to coming to Annapolis, she enjoyed hosting the Sunshine Club, a group of ladies from the Lutheran church dedicated to helping out community members in need. Memorial services were held at Ginger Cove in Annapolis, MD on Saturday, January 4, 2014. A Memorial Service will be held at St. John's Lutheran church in Allegany, NY at a date and time to be set, with burial to follow in Allegany Cemetery. Since Irene held family, faith, and community as those things dearest in her heart, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 36 North 4th Street, Allegany, NY 14706. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
