Obituary of Dorothy Greenidge

Olean Dorothy H. Greenidge, 77, of 2114 Hillcrest Avenue passed away Monday June 10, 2013 in the Olean General Hospital following a short illness. Born July 24, 1935 in Mt. Carmel PA she was the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Tomtishen Hvizda. She married Carrington "Caddy" Greenidge on January 6, 1962 in New Brunswick NJ, who survives. Dorothy was a graduate of Mt. Carmel Catholic High School and a graduate of Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing in Allentown PA in 1955. She was employed by Cutco Cutlery Olean NY as an occupational nurse for 11 Years retiring in 2002 capping a nursing career that spanned many years and specialties. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Parish Church Allegany NY where she was a member of the church choir and an active member of the Olean YMCA. She was an enthusiastic participant in Olean Community Theater, the Southern Tier Symphony and a local meditation group. As well, she was a regular duplicate bridge player and an accomplished tennis player at the former Olean Racquet Club. Mrs. Greenidge served on the boards of the New York State Occupational Health Nurses Association and the Cattaraugus County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse. She also volunteered for Canticle Farm and Cattaraugus County Meals on Wheels. In 2007 Mrs. Greenidge and her husband were recognized by the Olean Kiwanis Club for their contributions to their community. Surviving in addition to her husband are their two daughters, Jennifer Greenidge, Olean NY and Susan (Andrew) Hannon, Olean NY and one brother Edward Hvizda of Pheonix, AZ. At Mrs. Greenidge's request there will be no visitation. A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Parish Church at 10am Monday June 17, 2013. Burial will be in Fair Mount cemetery in Chatham NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Local address is RFL of Olean P.O.
