Sandra M. Anglovich
Olean, NY Sandra M. Anglovich of 702 W. Green Street passed away Saturday (March 23, 2013) at LaPaz Hospital in Parker, Arizona.
Born August 15, 1949 in Olean she was the daughter of Harold L. and Eloise Ruth Averill Jones. On July 22, 1972 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Olean she married J. Harold Anglovich who survives.
Sandra was a 1967 graduate of Olean High School and in 1968 graduated from Olean Business Institute. As a youth she was a girl scout and received the Gold Award, the organization's highest honor. She had first been employed by the New York State Department of Labor and later for the City of Olean Department of Public Works where she retired after twenty five years of service.
She and her husband had been winter residents of Quartzsite, Arizona for the past number of years and it was there that she had founded and operated Eagle Mountain Emporium. She traveled to area craft shows and sold handmade "seed bead" Native American jewelry.
She was Past Royal Matron for Amaranth Olean Court #19 and served as Past District Deputy Grand Royal Matron for New York State as well as the Grand Representative to Australia for the State of New York. She also was a member of the Smethport American Legion Auxiliary. Along with several other enthusiasts she helped found and served as secretary for the Allegheny Valley Region Antique Car Club.
She was very involved for twenty five years in the Boy Scouts of America and helped guide her son to the rank of Eagle Scout. She received a Merit Award from the scouting district as well as the Silver Beaver Award. She volunteered for the National Camp School staff for the Greater Cleveland Council at Beaumont, OH and locally she served on the camp staff for both Elk Lick Scout Reserve and the Allegheny Highlands Council in Smethport. She had served as a committee member for Troops #449, #495 and #501 in McKean County and was its Merit Badge Councilor.
She enjoyed volunteering for the McKean County 4-H program and also worked on the camp staff for Camp Northwinds, serving Potter, McKean, Cameron and Elk Counties. Additionally she was a member of its Horse Council committee, its District Development committee and was a staff person at the yearly, weeklong Keystone International Livestock Exhibition in Harrisburg, PA.
Sandra was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Olean where she earlier had taught Sunday school. She volunteered for the Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team and the yearly Salvation Army Christmas Castle. Additionally she was part of the Community Emergency Response Team for Cattaraugus County.
Surviving besides her husband are one son Patrick (Kaleena) Anglovich of Olean; one brother Bruce A. (Deb) Jones of Olean; one sister Julia G. Jones of Shinglehouse, PA; a nephew Bruce H. (Brittani) Jones of Olean and her close and dear friends Mike Johnson of Salamanca and Helen Cole of Smethport, PA.
A remembrance gathering is being planned for Saturday (May 4, 2013) from noon to 4pm at the Town of Olean Fire Department which friends and family are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Allegheny Highlands Council BSA, P.O. Box 261, 50 Hough Hill Rd. Falconer, NY 14733, the SPCA in Cattaraugus County, PO Box 375 Olean, NY 14760 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
