Bernice E. Dennis
Olean, NY Bernice E. Dennis of 500 E. Spring St. Apt 28 passed away Monday (March 11, 2013) at the Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home in Springville after a short illness
Born May 3, 1913 in Colchester, NY she was the daughter of John and Pearl Twaddell Martin. She was married to Albert L. Dennis who predeceased her in 1968.
Mrs. Dennis was a skilled seamstress and had worked for the former Davie's Department Store in Wellsville as well as the Olean General Hospital. She was a former longtime member of the Bolivar United Methodist Church and had worked there for a period of time as well. She was currently a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Olean and volunteered her talents there, especially in baking. Additionally, she volunteered for the Olean General Hospital. Her family and friends will remember her for her excellence in baking for many occasions and her daily solving of crossword puzzles.
Surviving are one daughter Marlene E. Sullivan of Springville; three grandchildren Dennis Sullivan of Hamburg, Kevin Sullivan of Hamburg and Colleen (Jim Horne) Sullivan of Schenectady; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a daughter Helen Wentworth; two brothers Arnold Martin and Ken Martin and two sisters Charlotte O'Hara and Helen Ryan.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (March 14, 2013) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. William Allen, pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 633 Linwood Avenue, Olean, NY 14760.
