Olean, NY Veronica I. Volz, formerly of N. 7th St. passed away Friday (January 11, 2013) at the Olean General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born February 10, 1927 in Olean she was the daughter of Edward R. and Ida C. Kuhn Cook. On November 28, 1945 at St. Mary of the Angels Church Rectory she was married by Fr. Bucheit to Stanley K. Volz who predeceased her August 12, 2008.
Mrs. Volz attended St. Mary of the Angels Parochial School and was a 1945 graduate of Olean High School. She was first employed by Stroehmann Bakeries after high school and later by the Olean Tile Co. She then worked for thirty five years for the former Acme Electric Co. in Allegany and later the Cuba plant, retiring in 1990.
She enjoyed her loving family to whom she was devoted, as well as to her catholic faith. She was a bingo player and was a bingo caller at St. Joseph's Sharbel Hall for many years. She also bowled with the Beseker and Coss League and enjoyed reading and traveling.
Surviving are five children David (Kathleen) Volz of Allegany, Kenneth (Pam) Volz of Williamsville, Suzanne (Edward) Conhiser of Allegany, Ronald (Betty Jo) of Allegany and Diane Scanlon of Allegany; twenty grandchildren; thirty two great grandchildren; one sister Sr. Gerarda Cook of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse; one daughter-in-law Barbara Volz of Olean; two sisters-in-law Dorothy (Richard) Robbins of Lancaster, CA and Gerry Sue (Carl) Hunt of Weston's Mills and several nieces and nephews. She was looking forward to the birth of her thirty third great grandchild.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a daughter Alice Rose Volz on May 17, 1949; a son Edward Volz on November 30, 2011; four sisters Victoria Washington, Virginia Drabant, Theresa Cook and Geraldine Hopkins.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (January 15, 2013) beginning with a prayer service at 9:00am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
