John F. Ducey, Jr.
Olean, NY--John F. Ducey, Jr. of 1409 W. Henley St. died Friday (February 7, 2003) in the Olean General Hospital after a short illness.
Born September 15, 1932 in Olean he was the son of John F. and Margaret Langworthy Ducey, Sr. On October 16, 1972 in Olean he married Arlene Hunt who survives.
Mr. Ducey was a 1951 graduate of Olean High School and was a lifelong resident of Olean. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served with the US Navy aboard the USS Oriskany.
He had been employed as a firefighter for the City of Olean from 1966 until his retirement in 1986. He was a former member of Local #1796 International Association of Firefighters. He also worked for over 10 years as a security guard at St. Bonaventure University.
Mr. Ducey enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed his family and his home and was affectionately know in his neighborhood as the "mayor of the West End".
Surviving besides his wife are 1 daughter Brenda (Howard) Baker of Westfield, Pa.; 2 grandchildren Michael (Tammy) Baker and Patrick (Khamoung) Baker; 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother David (Linda) Ducey of Eldred, Pa.; 1 sister Margaret "Nickey" (Richard) Baire of Allegany and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Monday (February 10, 2003) at 1:30pm in the funeral home. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
