Lynn A. Lounsbury
Allegany, NY Lynn A. Lounsbury, formerly a longtime resident of the West Five Mile Rd. died Thursday (August 23, 2012) in the Latta Road Nursing Home in Greece, NY after a long illness.
Born September 30, 1932 in Humphrey he was the son of Albert and Gertrude Senear Lounsbury. On September 4, 1954 in Allegany he married Mary Ann O'Donnell who survives.
Mr. Lounsbury was a 1951 graduate of Ellicottville Central School and had been employed by Dresser Rand Co. for thirty eight years, first as a machinist and later as a quality control inspector, retiring in 1995. He then worked as a crossing guard for Allegany Central School.
He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allegany and also was a life member of the Allegany Fire Department for over forty years. He held several positions including Captain of Fire Police and Vice Chairman of the Fire Commissioners. In 2001 he was awarded Volunteer Firefighter of the year which was presented by the Olean Exchange Club. He loved his garden, taking care of his lawn and puttering around the house.
Surviving besides his wife are four children Richard (Lori) Lounsbury of Lebanon, NH, Ronald (Janet) Lounsbury of Hyde Park, Rebecca (Donald) Flanders of Galway and Rhonda (John) Prey of Brockport; eight grandchildren whom he affectionately referred to as either buckwheat or bum, Ryan Lounsbury, Sarah Lounsbury, Nicole Lounsbury, Troy Lounsbury, Derek Flanders, Zachary Flanders, Morgan Prey and Mackenzie Prey; one brother Harold Lounsbury of Humphrey; one sister Betty Jane (Neel) Ditcher of Great Valley and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers Dale Lounsbury who died in infancy and Robert Lounsbury.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 1-3 & 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (August 27, 2012) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. John Woodring, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Allegany, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to Lifetime Care and Hospice 3111 South Winton Road Rochester, NY 14623.
