Judith A. Harwood
Olean, NY Judith A. Harwood of 3122 Pennsylvania Rd. passed away Sunday (June 10, 2012) in Rochester General Hospital.
Born July 23, 1943 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Ralph and Clarissia Parker Wiley. On February 23, 1964 in Haskell Community Church she married Douglas E. Harwood who survives.
Mrs. Harwood was a 1962 graduate of Hinsdale Central School and was a lifelong resident of the area. She had been employed for over thirty years for the Olean Times Herald prior to her retirement in 2008.
She was very involved with raising her family and helped establish a program in the early 1970's which provided for a hearing impaired class through the ReHabilitation Center and which led to mainstreaming handicapped children into Olean area schools. She also loved animals and formerly worked at the SPCA in the 1970's.. Additionally, she helped raise money for health related charities.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters Deborah (Charles) Youngs of Portville and Tammy (Ron) Boucher of Rochester; four grandchildren Melissa Boucher, Angela Boucher, Michael Youngs and Sarah Youngs; a sister-in-law Wilma (Gene) Gilstrap of Brookville, PA; a brother-in-law Harold (Linda) Harwood of Olean; four cousins Cathy Swift, Robert (Kay) Conrad, Dick (Jackie) Conrad and Burt (Joanne) Conrad and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by twin daughters at birth and her parents.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (June 14, 2012) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Richard Young, pastor of the Hinsdale United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to "Foundation Fighting Blindness" PO Box 17279 Baltimore, MD 21297-0495, the American Kidney Association, the American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.
