Grandma 'Darling', and Great Grandma"
Olean, NY Betty Waldeck Chevassu of 1408 Washington St. passed away Wednesday (April 25, 2012) after a year long stay at The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean.
Born June 20, 1916 in Allegany she was the daughter of Grover C. and Anna Graham Waldeck. On May 18, 1940 at St. Mary of the Angels Church Rectory in Olean she married William Eugene Chevassu who predeceased her January 8, 1985 after forty five years of marriage.
Mrs. Chevassu was a 1934 graduate of Olean High School upon which she was employed in the office of the former Montgomery Ward Co. After her marriage and having children, she worked for seventeen years at the former Carnahan's Men's Store in Olean and for a short time at the former A.M. & A's Department Store at the Olean Center Mall from which she retired in 1978.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church. Her faith was the center of her life. She was a compassionate and caring person as evidenced by her involvement in volunteering at the Olean Learning Center, St. Francis Hospital Gift Shop, Interfaith Caregivers, St. Vincent DePaul Auxiliary and Homecare and Hospice Guild.
She thoroughly enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports and she was an avid Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees fan. She was the very essence of the word "mother" and her family always came first. She was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
She was blessed with two daughters Marianne (Roy) Scott of Mechanicville and Jeanne (John) Pfeiffer of Olean; four grandchildren Steven (Lisa) Scott of Andover, MA, Kristian Pfeiffer of Olean, Traci (Dave) Jersen of Saratoga Springs and Justin Pfeiffer of Pittsburgh, PA; a granddaughter-in-law Dianne Pfeiffer of Olean; six great grandchildren Rachel, Graham, Rosie, Lilli, Ruth and Elijah and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
