Robert Thomas Martin
Framingham Robert Thomas Martin, 62, former longtime resident of Framingham, MA, died Friday, January 13, 2012, with his beloved wife by his side.
Born December 5, 1949 in Bronx, NY, he was the son of Vincent Charles and Mary Collins Martin. On Valentines Day 1981 Robert married his best friend and dearest love, Christine Askane Fay, Esq., who survives.
Robert, a dashing man of keen intellect and sharp wit, was raised in the Bronx, attended Dwight School in Manhattan, and later received a BA degree in Psychology from St. Bonaventure University with a ROTC commission as a second lieutenant. It was there that he met his wife-to-be, whose parents both taught at St. Bonaventure.
Robert worked for 23 years as a Senior Accountant for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. It was there he received the Deputy Commissioner's Citation for Outstanding Performance, and most importantly it was there, and in the communities, that he gained the lasting friendship of the many with whom he worked.
Robert was a member of St. Bridget's RC Church in Framingham. In his younger years, he enjoyed boating of all varieties, flying airplanes, and riding his motorcycle throughout NYC and on Long Island. In his later years, he enjoyed visiting Walt Disney World with his children, bird watching with his wife, gardening, watching classic movies, and most of all the simplicity of impromptu weekend vacations in the Hamptons with his family.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Christine, and four children (of whom he was so very proud), including Jessica (John Nunnari) Fay, Morgan Fay-Martin, Collins Fay-Martin, Esq., and Brenan Fay-Martin. He is also survived by his two beloved grandchildren, Kathryn Fay and Mackenzie "Mickey" Fay-Martin; his brother Vincent Charles (Dr. Molly Kulesz-Martin) Martin, Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews; his brother-in-law Cornelius Fay; and three sisters-in-law, Amy Fay, Katherine Fay, Janet Crawshaw.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, infant brother Thomas Martin, and beloved brother-in-law and dearest friend, John T. Fay.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 West State Rd. Olean on Friday, 5-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 11:00 am in the St. Bonaventure University Chapel. Robert will be laid to rest in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, which is also the final resting place of Christine's parents (Cornelius and Janet Fay) and John Fay.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert's name to the Solid Tumors Program of OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, 3181 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Rd., Portland, Oregon 97239, for the purpose of research and treatment of renal cell carcinoma.
