Violet I. Lampe
Olean, NY Violet I. Lampe of 318 N. 13th St. died Friday (December 9, 2011) in the Cuba Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit after a short illness, with her loving son and daughter-in-law at her side.
Born October 22, 1917 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of John Albin and Hilda Oliva Johnson Tenglund. She was married to Dean A. Lampe, Sr. and he predeceased her July 23, 1952.
Mrs. Lampe was a lifelong resident of Olean and worked for the former Daystrom Furniture Co. and for the former Socony Vacuum Co. She later worked as a cashier for F. J. Mahar Service Stores, Inc. at their former Fifteenth Street location until her retirement.
She was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Olean and was a former member of the Ladies of the Moose in Olean. She was generous with her talent in that she enjoyed knitting hats, mittens and slippers that were sold in both Olean hospitals' gift shops until arthritis no longer permitted her to do so.
Surviving are one son Neil (Sandy) Lampe of Olean; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister Eva Carlson of Olean; a daughter-in-law Elaine Lampe of Olean and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a son Dean A. "Dino" Lampe, Jr. on September 24, 2008; a granddaughter; four sisters Elsie Ingalls, Ruth Bender, Svea Williams and Eleanor O'Connor and two brothers Albert Tenglund and Carl Tenglund.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday (December 13, 2011) from 10:00am until noon at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Olean with services to follow at noon. Rev. Marie Meeks, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
In lieu of flowers, the family will accept memorial donations at the funeral home or church which will be directed by them to four specific charities requested by Mrs. Lampe.
