Edward J. Volz
Olean, NY Edward J. Volz of W. Henley St. died Wednesday (November 30, 2011) in the Cuba Memorial Hospital Medical Care Unit with his loving family by his side.
Born December 12, 1951 in Olean, NY he was the son of Stanley K. and Veronica Ida Cook Volz. On May 1, 1976 in Olean he married Barbara J. Kennedy who survives.
Mr. Volz was a U.S. Navy veteran having served from 1972 until 1975. He worked as an electrician all of his life, first for the former Felmont Oil Co. until its closing, then later for McKean Machinery in Olean. In 1985 he began employment with American Olean Tile Co., now Dal-Tile Corp until his retirement in 2003.
He was a life member of the Olean VFW Post 1619 and served with the Civil Defense Auxiliary in Olean. He enjoyed hunting, especially at the camp on Lippert Hollow with family and friends, woodworking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife are his mother of Olean; one son Robert Volz of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire; three daughters April (Patrick) Eaton of Owego, Angela (Benjamin) Himan of Pittsburgh, PA and Annette (Matthew) Cannon of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren Cody Eaton, Thomas Eaton, Samuel Eaton, Eleanor Volz and Edith Volz; five brothers and sisters David (Kathleen) Volz of Allegany, Kenneth (Pamela) Volz of Williamsville, Suzanne (Edward) Conhiser of Allegany, Ronald (Betty Jo) Volz of Allegany and Diane Scanlon of Allegany and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was predeceased by his father in 2008 and a sister Alice Rose Volz on May 17, 1949.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Thursday from 6-8pm and on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (December 3, 2011) beginning with a prayer service at 10:00am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.
