Jeanne V. Polson
"Loving wife, mother, and grandmother"
Olean, NY �" Jeanne V. Polson of 330 North 11th Street, passed away Monday (September 12, 2011) at the Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born August 10, 1926 in Weston-Super-Mare, England, she was the only child of Edward and Amelia Johnson Neathway. On July 22, 1950 in Weston-Super-Mare, England, she married Bruce C. Polson who predeceased her on April 16, 2009.
Mrs. Polson was a graduate of Locking Road School in Weston-Super-Mare. During World War II, she worked as a nurse's aide at her local hospital while in her teens and later as a factory worker at an airplane manufacturing plant in nearby Bristol. After the war, she held various part-time jobs while caring for her dearly beloved mum, who had become disabled due to a stroke, subsequent to her death in 1950.
She immigrated with her husband to his native United States in 1951 where she began to raise a family and enjoyed being a devoted homemaker. She moved to Olean in 1960 and in 1971 she began full time employment as a teacher's aide for BOCES, primarily at the Olean High and Junior High Schools, until her retirement in 1994.
She had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Olean, where she served as a deacon, and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Allegany, where she was highly involved in the Ladies Guild. She volunteered with the Girl Scouts of America as a troop leader, the Olean High School Band Parents and Special Olympics, among other organizations. She enjoyed making beautifully decorated cakes, especially for her family, friends, students, and colleagues. She had a lifelong love of dancing, a love of music, especially swing, jazz standards, and traditional hymns, and a love of classic movies. She also loved a nice cup of tea.
Surviving are three children Sue (David) Veselak of Irmo, SC, Mark (Sue) Polson of Wildwood, MO and Craig Polson of Olean and three grandchildren Adam Polson, Lauren Veselak and Andrew Polson.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 West State Rd. Olean on Friday (September 23, 2011) from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (September 24, 2011) at 2:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 44 N. 3rd St., Allegany. Dr. Anthony Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
