Gerald R. Bowersox Olean, NY Gerald R. Bowersox of 412 Aspen Towers died Wednesday (August 10, 2011) in the Olean General Hospital. Born September 6, 1918 in Olean, NY he was the son of Norman O. and Etta M. Lucas Bowersox. On August 17, 1940 at St. John's Church in Olean he married Mary Margaret Pratt who predeceased him May 4, 1996. Mr. Bowersox was a lifelong resident of Olean and worked at Dresser Clark Co. for forty years, retiring in 1977. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. In his retirement years he and his wife traveled extensively in their RV to all fifty states, including three trips to Alaska and also a trip to Europe. He enjoyed showing others the many pictures he took of their travels. His greatest love was for his family and spending time entertaining, playing cards and listening to music of which he had a vast collection. He also delivered Meals on Wheels for over fifteen years. Surviving are: one daughter JoAnn (Dennis) Frink of Williamsburg, VA; one son Thomas (Karen) Bowersox of Olean; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; three nephews and a close companion Kathleen Bledsoe of Olean. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by one daughter Patricia Goodnite in 1989; one sister Virginia "Toots" Weitzel in 2010 and one brother Everett Bowersox in 1995. At Mr. Bowersox's request there will be no visitation. A private memorial graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean. Rev. Daniel McKee, interim pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Olean, will officiate. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean and online condolences may be left at oleanfuneralhome.com.
