Obituary of Jon Stranburg

Jon C. Stranburg Allegany, NY Jon C. Stranburg of 2445 Oakwood Terrace died Monday (August 8, 2011) from a drowning accident which occurred during routine maintenance on a power plant turbine in Baldwinsville. Born February 28, 1951 in Olean he was the son of Ralph and Phyllis Allen Stranburg of Franklinville. On June 10, 1972 in N. Syracuse he married Terri Jenkins who survives. Mr. Stranburg was a 1969 graduate of Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville and graduated from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY in 1973 with a degree in Economics. He ventured into many work endeavors over the years, primarily as an entrepreneur in property development, oil drilling and hydroelectric production. Jon was a huge Sabres fan and attended multiple games as a season ticket holder. He had a deep affection for all animals and especially loved his two dogs "Nilla" and "Lindy Ruff Ruff" and cat "Snickers". He also loved water activities, in particular, boating and relaxing on the St. Lawrence River and Kinzua Reservoir. Surviving besides his wife, Terri, are his mother Phyllis Stranburg of Franklinville; one daughter Kelly Stranburg of Charlotte, NC; one son Brett Stranburg of Allegany; one brother Lee (Pat) Stranburg of Chalfont, PA; one sister Kay (John) Spurr of Scituate, MA and several nieces and nephews and many close family friends. He was predeceased by his father. Friends will be received for a memorial visitation at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Saturday (April 13, 2011) from 11:00am until 1:00pm. A memorial service will begin at 1:00pm in the funeral home. Dr. Anthony L. Evans will officiate.
