Obituary of Loren Edel

Loren Albert Edel Machias, NY Loren Albert Edel, a former longtime Olean resident, died Thursday (June 23, 2011) in The Pines of Machias. Born June 27, 1920 in Olean, NY he was the son of Albert and Hazel Brunell Edel. On September 2, 1946 at St. John's Church in Olean he married Geraldine Rogers who predeceased him January 5, 2010. Mr. Edel was a graduate of Olean High School and was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1945. He had been employed for thirty years as a machinist at Dresser Clark in Olean prior to his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local #4601, and he loved to fish and hunt. Surviving are two sons Roger (Pam) Edel of Clarence and Stephen Edel of Allegany; four grandchildren Stephanie, Mallory, Amanda and Matthew; two great grandchildren Evelyn and Sophia; one brother Albert Edel, Jr. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by three sisters Madeline, Marcella and Marilyn; one brother Fran and a daughter-in-law Christine Edel. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 6-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday (June 27, 2011) at 10:00am in St. John's Church. Rev. Edward Sheedy, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
