Obituary of William Yehl

Olean - William C. Yehl of Olean, passed away Monday (April 11, 2011) at the Cuba Palliative Care Unit, after a brief illness. Born July 31, 1920 in Olean, he was the son of Rennie and Annie Overnstone Yehl. On September 23, 1946, he married Elizabeth A. Thomas, who predeceased him December 30, 1996. Mr. Yehl, a graduate of Olean High School,enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1942-1945. Later, he went to work for Bradley Builders in Olean. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and enjoyed wood carving, pen and ink drawings, hunting and fishing. Surviving are his children Thomas J. (Carolyn) Yehl of Centreville, VA, Patricia A. Yehl of Olean, Stephen A. (Denise) Yehl of Horseheads,NY Andrew W. (Deborah) Yehl of Tampa FL, Gary P. Yehl of Washington D.C., W. Patrick (Dawn) Yehl of Canandaigua NY, Mary (Thomas) Covley of Penfield, NY; 1 sister Jeanne Carlson, 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife he was predeceased by his two brothers, twin Dean Yehl and Rev. Addison Yehl. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home on Monday (April 25, 2011) from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (April 26, 2011) beginning with a 9:30am prayer service at the funeral home, followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
