Gladiolis "Rachel" Jobe
Olean, NY- Gladiolis "Rachel" Jobe of 350 Front Street died Saturday (March 22, 2003) in the Olean General Hospital after a short illness.
Born September 25, 1917 in Olean she was the daughter of Jesse and Catherine Jobe. Miss Jobe was a graduate of Olean High School and had resided in Olean all of her life. During WWII she served with the WACS from 1943 until 1945.
She worked as an LPN in the nursery at Olean General Hospital for forty years, retiring in 1983. Providing nursing care in the maternity ward for so many years was testament to her love of nuturing newborns. This care was also extended to all the younger members of her family. Later in her life she enjoyed knitting and watching television. In recent years she received great pleasure in cultivating friendships at her home in Aspen Tower.
Her surviving family members include John and Terry Carpenter of Olean and their children Daniel (Meredith) Carpenter of Dallas, TX, Donald (Lisa) Carpenter, Denise (Robert) George and Kristin Carpenter, all of Olean; their children Justin, Trevor, Kyle, Collin, Gabrielle, Taylor, Meghan and Jake. She is also survived by a very dear friend Vivian Carpenter, with whom she resided for forty years.
She was predeceased by 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Friends may gather with family on Tuesday (March 25, 2003) from noon until 2:00pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the nursery unit at Olean General Hospital, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
