Obituary of Frances Briggs

Frances M. Briggs Allegany, NY Frances M. Briggs, formerly of Allegany Street died peacefully Wednesday (January 5, 2011) at the Absolut at Houghton where she had been residing for the past several years. Mrs. Briggs was born June 28, 1913 in Olean, NY and resided in Angelica, NY where she attended school. On October 12, 1937 in Angelica she married Raymond R. Briggs who predeceased her September 15, 1987. She had been employed for a long time as an executive secretary for the former F. C. Thomas, Inc. wholesale grocer in Olean. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany and was both a golf and bowling enthusiast. She was a former member of the Bartlett Country Club, enjoyed watching baseball on television and was a longtime secretary for the Olean Women's Bowling Association. Surviving are two nephews Gary (Patricia) Balcom of Wellsville and Roger (Vickie) Balcom of Franklinville; two nieces Marsha (David) Gena of Franklinville and Martha (John) Vossler of Wellsville and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Helen and Charles Balcom. There will be no prior visitation. Friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held Saturday (January 8, 2011) at 3:00pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean.
