"Beloved husband of Helen Martinelli Scolar"
Dunedin, FL-- Anthony Scolar of 2697 Colony Dr. died suddenly Saturday (March 22, 2003) in his home.
Born April 27, 1927 in Tripolis, Greece he was the son of Spiros and Irene Christopoulou Scolarikos. On October 7, 1983 in Astoria, NY he married the former Helen Martinelli. They spent 17 wonderful years of marriage together until she predeceased him April 4, 2001.
Mr. Scolar was raised and educated in Greece where he still has many family members residing. He worked in Greece for the National City Bank and had been a resident of the United States since the late 1950's, working as a general contractor in NYC. For many years he used his creative designing and decorating skills, along with his wood-carving ability, to help in the construction of and remodeling of homes and businesses. He and his wife moved to Florida where he belonged to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. He continued to travel back to NYC often, and also to Greece and other locations, where he especially enjoyed visiting his family whom he loved so dearly.
Surviving are 2 sisters Soula Apostolopolou and Vera Mikeli Scocos , both of Athens Greece; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, including several from the Olean and Allegany area.
In addition to his beloved wife he was predeceased by several sisters and brothers including Mary Minotou, Athanasios Scocos, Nota Haralaopopoulou, Dimitrios Scocos, Constantine Scocos and Vickie Tamvaka.
There will be no prior visitation. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Friday (March 28, 2003) at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Mauseleum burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean, NY.
