Doris Sylvia Tisdale
Olean, NY-- Doris Sylvia Tisdale, a former longtime resident of W. Rivershore Drive in Niagara Falls, a resident of Eden Heights since 2004 and of The Pines in Olean since 2008, died Monday (November 8, 2010) in the Olean General Hospital.
Born February 2, 1917 in Akron, OH she was the daughter of Cornelius and Bessie Utter Swartwout. On July 21, 1939 at the First Christian Church in Niagara Falls she married William Edwin Tisdale, Sr. who predeceased her February 18, 1996.
Mrs. Tisdale was a 1938 graduate of Buffalo City Hospital School of Nursing and later received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Buffalo. Her career was as an RN at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital for many years. Later she taught at the Trott Vocational High School in Niagara Falls, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in the town of Niagara and was a founding member and past president of the Lioness Club in the town of Niagara. She was also a member of the Niagara River Yacht Club and was an instructor with the Power Squadron. She had a love of music and was an accomplished pianist.
Surviving are 1 son William E. (Mary) Tisdale, Jr. of Chazy; 1 daughter Janet (David) Howard of Allegany; 5 grandchildren Matthew (Amy) Tisdale, Mark Tisdale, Thomas (Julie) Yudichak, William (Jamie) Yudichak and Michael (Jamie) Yudichak; 3 stepgrandchildren Lesley Tweetie, Michelle (Kenneth) Parris and Mark (Jennifer) Howard; 11 great grandchildren; 3 nieces and a sister-in-law Helen Tisdale of Niagara Falls.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service to be held Thursday (November 11, 2010) at 1:00pm in Acacia Park Cemetery in N. Tonawanda. Memorials may be made to the Lioness Club, %Jean Shively 1930 Saundersettlement Rd. Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
