Obituary of Paul Stark

Olean, NY-Paul C. Stark, Sr. of 215 S. 11th St. died Tuesday (June 29, 2010) in his home.
Born December 28, 1945 in Mt. Vernon, NY he was the son of Conrad F. and Eunice V. Seabott Stark. On January 8, 1972 in Scio, NY he married Bonnie S. Brown who survives.
Paul graduated from Immaculate Conception Parochial School in Wellsville and from Wellsville High School. He then attended St. Bonaventure University. From 1967 to 1970 he served with the US Marines and for 13 months was in Vietnam with the Infantry.
He first worked as an orderly for the Jones Memorial Hospital and has been a resident of Olean for the past 35 years. He was a very active communicant of St. Mary of the Angels Church where he was a Eucharistic minister and a former Stephen Minister and RCIA team member. In 1992 he received the Archbishop Walsh Volunteer of the Year award and was a volunteer Eucharistic Minister for pastoral care at Olean General Hospital. He was active with the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. Additionally, he belonged to the Wellsville High School Alumni Association and enjoyed playing chess as well as walking.
Paul found it gratifying to offer his friendship to others who were either sick or down on their luck.
Surviving besides his wife are 2 sons Paul C. (Amanda) Stark, Jr. of Lebanon, OH and Andrew (Brandi) Stark of Southport, NC; 2 brothers Timothy F. (Sophie) Stark of Chester, NH and Peter M. (Rose) Stark of Ashville, NY; mother-in-law Rose Brown of Friendship and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister Kathryn Ligus in 1991.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (July 3, 2010) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Angels Church or to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760.
