Obituary of Lawrence Harmon

Hinsdale-- Lawrence E. Harmon Sr., of 1496 Flanigan Road, passed away Sunday (March 14, 2010) at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy illness.
Born November 9,1937 in Bolivar, he was the son Arthur and Minnie Bailey Harmon. On August 28, 1958, in Olean, he married Edna Mae Grimes, who predeceased him on May 05, 1984.
Mr. Harmon had been a truck driver for 41 years. He had worked for Sandburg Oil Co. in Olean for 13 years, before moving to Phoenix Arizona, where he had lived for 10 years. After moving back to the area, he had worked for Alle-Catt Asphalt, Allied, B.R. Dewitt, Henry Browning, Elliott Lumber Co, and Crosby Poultry. Mr. Harmon retired from Boehmer Transportation in 1999.
He enjoyed going to horse and truck pulls and he loved his pets.
Surviving are 5 children Lawrence E. (Linda) Harmon, Jr. of Portville, Terry Gebel of Manchester, CT, Dennis R. Harmon of Sonyea, NY, David (Deborah) Harmon of Rutherfordton, NC, Sherry (Kim Childs) Harmon of Olean; 9 grandchildren; and11 great grandchildren.
Besides his wife he was predeceased by a son Gary Mark Harmon on March 31, 1967.
At Mr. Harmon's request, visitation and funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Hinsdale Cemetery, Maplehurst.
Memorials if desired may be made to the S.P.C.A. 2944 Olean-Hinsdale Road, Olean.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean.
