Helen Maxine Duncan Olean, NY- Helen Maxine Duncan, formerly of Allegany, died Sunday (February 21, 2010) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean where she had been a resident for the past several years. Born February 14, 1921 in Branby, MO she was the daughter of Thomas Jackson and Bessie A. Poteet Cook. Mrs. Duncan resided for many years in Kansas, Missouri and Texas prior to moving to Allegany. She had been employed as a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olean and was an avid square dancer. She was also involved with the Foster Grandparent program, was a volunteer for Interfaith Caregivers and was formerly a director of the Olean Senior League Rhythm Band. Surviving are 1 daughter Donna (Harley) DeLong of Hinsdale; 3 grandchildren Kara Pascucci, Bob (Beth) DeLong and Jeremy (Casey) DeLong; 7 great grandchildren Bayli, Jaggar and Xander Pascucci, Brandyn and Bridget DeLong and Gracie and Sara DeLong and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers and 1 sister. At Mrs. Duncan's request, her body will be donated to medical science. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Allegany Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held Sunday (February 28, 2010) at 1:00pm in the First Baptist Church in Olean. Rev. Dan McDowell, pastor, will officiate. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
