Susan E. Jones
“Unconditional Loving Person”
Carrollton, NY-- Susan E. Jones of 2575 Carrollton Rd. was taken from her earthly family and friends to join her Savior and heavenly family Thursday (November 24, 2005) in the Olean General Hospital after a short illness.
Born May 30, 1918 in Costello, PA she was the daughter of Francis and Ida Staysa Harrington. On March 1, 1937 at St. Patrick’s Church in Limestone she married Clifford W. Jones who predeceased her November 10, 1960.
Mrs. Jones graduated from Limestone High School and had been employed at the Salamanca School District for many years. She also served as Tax Collector for the Town of Carrollton for 39 years. She had lovingly served her family, friends and community throughout her life and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. She had been a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Limestone and was an active member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She could be counted on for putting on dinners for large family gatherings and for community events. At the age of 12 she performed a courageous act of heroism by rescuing 12 young children from drowning during a sledding accident. In later years she responded to the needs of family and community citizens by making her residence a caring place that they could call “home.”
Her favorite hobbies included playing cards, especially euchre, and being a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
Surviving are 5 children Patricia A. Jones and Mary (Ray) Haley, both of Carrollton, Susan Ellen (Donald) Lynch of Lancaster and Robert (Andrea) Jones and John F. (Shelley) Jones, both of Allegany; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 4 sisters Mary Langdon, Catherine Harrington, Margaret Ryan and Kathleen Farr; 2 brothers Staysa Harrington and George Russell Harrington and a special niece Beverly Harrington.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean tonight from 7-9pm and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (November 28, 2005) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am in St. Patrick’s Church in Limestone. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, NY. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department.
